While this number is daunting, educational institutes are doing their best to control the situation. County, public, and private schools reported around 27 COVID-19 cases as schools have reopened throughout Aiken County. Despite the pandemic, the Concord Golf Club has remained in business with new safety protocols in place designed to protect members and staff against the Covid-19 virus.</p>

<p>Confronted with restrictions on the use of shared equipment and a concern for the health and safety of the members, the golf club found the Covid-19 environment to be especially challenging to balance compliance with appropriate health guidelines and a desire to help members stay active. With a priority to look after the health of members, the club initially took a conservative position and withdrew all golf carts from use as they were not confident that they could appropriately clean them between hirings.</p>

<p>Ozonated Water — Concord Golf Club found a unique solution to sanitizing golf carts to overcome Covid restrictions. After some further research, they have now installed a Water Disinfection System (WDS) ozonated water unit to sanitize the golf carts from top to bottom each morning before every use, resulting in re-introducing carts for use by members without risk of infection. Members were especially pleased that they were able to achieve the objective of “bug-free” carts without the use of harsh chemical-based products. The use of ozonated water, which naturally breaks down to normal water after approximately 20 minutes, makes it safe for application by staff and use by their members, as ozone (O3) naturally reverts to oxygen (O2) by releasing the singular oxygen molecules (activated oxygen). </p>

<p>Ozonated water is one such technology that’s helping us fight against the virus until a vaccine is safe and easily accessible. There have been studies that provide proof for effective prevention approaches to fighting Covid-19. One of the major strategies to prevent coronavirus from spreading is to regularly disinfect our homes, workplaces, and public places. Ozonated water is a disinfection method that is far superior to chemical agents and equally effective against the Covid-19 virus.</p>



<h3><strong>Common Methods for Indoor Disinfection</strong></h3>



<p><a href="https://www.houstonmethodist.org/blog/articles/2020/mar/how-long-can-coronavirus-survive-on-surfaces/">Studies </a>show that the new coronavirus infects people through respiratory droplets. An infected person&#8217;s cough can send infectious respiratory droplets flying as far as six feet. <p>Chemical disinfectants have been known to be used for disinfection. Nevertheless, these chemicals are usually difficult to decompose, leaving harmful residues that are dangerous to human health.</p>



<p>On the other hand, ozone disinfection has been commonly used in hospitals to disinfect equipment and significantly reduce or eliminate the spread of bacteria. <h3><strong>Can Ozone Disinfection Kill Covid-19?</strong></h3>



<p>There are reliable reports showing that ozone sanitation can kill Covid-19. But even before the pandemic of 2020, ozone sanitation was employed to sanitize environments infected with SARS-CoV-1 during the SARS epidemic of 2003. Since SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes the Covid-19 is also a member of the Coronavirus family-like SARS-CoV-1, it is not surprising that ozone sanitization is effective at eliminating Covid-19 and has the potential to bring widespread relief to those who deploy it at home and in workspaces.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>



<p>In fact, a recent <a href="https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-ozone-idUSKBN25M0SO">study</a> published last month from Fujita Health University, Japan, announced that they found low concentrations of ozone of 0.05-0.1 ppm, which is harmless to humans, can neutralize Covid-19 cells, potentially providing an effective way for hospitals to disinfect examination rooms and waiting areas during the pandemic. Researchers used an ozone generator in a closed room with Covid-19 samples. After 10 hours of releasing ozonated mist into the room, the virus’s potential for infection dropped by more than 90 percent.&nbsp;</p>

<h3><strong>How Does Ozone Sanitization Kill Covid-19?</strong></h3>



<p>Ozone (O3) is a reactive element consisting of three atoms of oxygen. It is reactive because it will readily degrade back to its stable state, diatomic oxygen (O2) with the formation of free oxygen atoms or free radicals. The free oxygen atoms or radicals are highly reactive and will oxidize almost anything (including viruses, bacteria, organic and inorganic compounds) in contact, making ozone an enormously powerful disinfectant and oxidizer.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Ozone can be produced by an electrolytic ozone generator. Once ozone is produced, it reacts with a pollutant and breaks it down into less complex molecules via a process called oxidation. The new coronavirus is considered an “enveloped virus”, which is usually more responsive to physicochemical challenges. Ozone destroys this type of virus by diffusing over the outer shell into the core, thereby destroying the viral RNA. <p>In October 2020, Scientists at Fujita Health University, Japan, found that low concentrations of ozone can kill coronavirus cells, which may provide a way for hospitals to disinfect examination rooms and waiting areas. <p>In Hong Kong, housing for the elderly has become a big issue for both families of the elderly and city planners. Due to an aging population, the demand for nursing homes in Hong Kong is exploding. According to <a href="https://www.scmp.com/news/hong-kong/education/article/2146677/hong-kong-faces-challenge-how-manage-its-ageing-population">Hong Kong Population Projections</a>, the number of elderly people aged 65 or older will reach 2.58 million by 2064, making up around 36 percent of the population. As of 2017, there are 32,316 nursing homes or senior care centers in Hong Kong. Maintaining comfortable living standards for residents in senior centers has also become a huge challenge, as many of these senior care centers are understaffed and overcrowded.</p>



<p>One of the biggest issues nursing home facilities face in keeping quality of life up to standards for their residents is keeping odors under control. Despite electricity and water for these facilities being subsidized by the local government, nursing home staff in Hong Kong still have to deal with the monumental task and cost of controlling odors that can seep through and contaminate entire floors. This is because many elderly residents are unable to control bowel movements and cannot reach bathrooms on time.</p>
